Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Table

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in influence within the urban setting.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of characters who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team includes Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might look unsuited, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose death initiated the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Cyd close behind.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each character has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty location.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their status as key figures in the powerful family could enable the party enter areas they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This means them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.

Future Episodes

According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Fans can anticipate finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
